A Trip to the Park with Joey and Jessamyn

This past weekend we were blessed with some wonderful warm weather and temperatures in the mid-sixties. The kids and I were dying to get out of the house and go do something so we opted for a three hour stint at one of their favorite playgrounds that is near our house. Many of their friends were also there at the same time.

Jessamyn Jumps on the first thing she finds (a bouncing pedestal) as soon as she finished riding her tricycle the 1/4 mile ride from the house

Swinging on a 'round-a-bout' would make me sick, but this little girl just loves it

More circles for Jess... I'm getting dizzy just taking the pictures

After the 'round-a-bout' Jessamyn transitions to a tire swing to do some more circles

This rope climbing structure replaces several older metal based climbing gyms that were deemed "unsafe" for children. Joey and Jess love this particular structure, as evidenced in the following photos

Joey showing us his "perplexed" face as he navigates to the top of the tower-shaped structure

Almost there...

Success!

Jessamyn quickly climbs up to the top as well just like her brother Joey did...

Showing a little excitement running through the maze of playground equipment

Looking like a mountain climber navigating a tough cliff wall

Joey climbs with ease at a task that eluded his abilities the previous year

He was also able to handle this tough climb this year too...

A couple other children had been riding this spinning "top" which prompted these two to demand that I put them up there and spin them around... yet they loved it

Joey attempts to slide down the stairs that are supposed to be used for climbing up into the structure

Another climbing excursion with Joey explaining to me how to successfully navigate this tough interface

A "shoes-off" slide back down

Jessamyn explains to me the finer points of using small pebbles as the basis of a monetary system... "Well, you see, these are my monies and you can't have them... only Joey and I do." I later found the better part of two dozen of her "monies" in her back pocket as she got ready to go to bed

Joey laughs as he helps to sort their "money" before depositing it in the "bank" which, in their terms, equates to throwing the rocks down the slide

Tears stain my cheeks as vicariously I relive a day of photographing you at Old Mission Peninsula School playground when you too were five years old.

What a chilling sensation, to have done with you precisely what you are doing with your children. Remembrances of Things Past. How Marcel Proustian!!!!! And thereby immortality is gained, according to Proust.

Thanks for the memories, Jay.

Do have the children bring up their change-collecting machine...the one that stacks quarters, etc, in a tube, to take to the bank. Grandpa Ray has collected tons of change which he would like to contribute to the childrens' college funds.

Yet, absolutely clever that Joey and Jess have created their own currency. Great concept of "money" and value. At one point in history, barley was the monetary currency. It is all a question of value.

Perhaps the children would be interested in a Petoskey stone monetary system...which is rare and can only be found along our Lake Michigan shores. Right out front here, they are most prevalent after winter snows melt to leave a winter-long collection of washed-up pebbles.

What an incredible park so close. I too was reminded of a video we have of Jason as a pirate climbing the playground equipment with his Dad while I was tending to our newborn Aaron.
"Yashe koach" Jay!
